Children Yoga

What is yoga & how does it help?

The word 'yoga' means: connecting the body and the mind. Whether at home, school or in their leisure time, I have noticed that children spend most of their time preoccupied in their minds. They spend a lot of time on screen, be it social media, their phone, iPad or watching television. Yoga can help the child to rest their mind and body. The child learns to focus beter on school activities, to concentrate better and yoga also promotes creativity and the problem solving skills of a child.

The yoga postures that I use are versatile and completely focus on the child, they are playful and lively as well. Relaxing music and various yoga exercises such as breathing techniques and body awareness are also used in my sessions.

It is important that the children practice the yoga exercises daily at home. The parents can help their child by doing some yoga postures together. Therefore Patangam also offers yoga lessons for mothers (see yoga schedule). Doing yoga postures together, can create a connection between family members which will make the child feel at ease.

Clothes

Please make sure that you wear comfortable clothes, which enables you to move easily (e.g. training or jogging pants, a T-shirt and a warm sweater or cardigan). In winter, socks with non-slip soles are recommended. I shall be providing the yoga mats; you may bring your own pillow and blanket.
